History and genealogy buffs will want to make sure they visit the Nodaway County Historical Society Museum. Located only four blocks from downtown Maryville at First and Walnut Streets (on west Highway 46), the history of Maryville and Nodaway County are preserved. The two floors of exhibits include war uniforms and memorabilia, china, quilts, equestrian and horse racing artifacts, and photographs of Nodaway County residents whose fame extends beyond the county scope. Located next to the Historical Society Museum are the more than 150-year-old Caleb Burns Working Man's House and the 1883 Hickory Grove Schoolhouse. For those looking for some religious, history Maryville's surrounding regions may accommodate you. With a century-old country church, St. Oswald's in the Field is located fifteen miles southwest of Maryville and is worth the short drive. To the east of Maryville, about seventeen miles, the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (1891), the spiritual center of Conception Abbey/Seminary College in Conception, MO. Located to the northeast in Clyde, MO. is the Chapel of the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration (1900-11), known for its superb acoustical qualities.
