History and genealogy buffs will want to make
sure they visit the Nodaway County Historical
Society Museum. Located only four blocks from
downtown Maryville at First and Walnut Streets
(on west Highway 46), the history of Maryville
and Nodaway County are preserved. The two
floors of exhibits include war uniforms and
memorabilia, china, quilts, equestrian and
horse racing artifacts, and photographs of
Nodaway County residents whose fame extends
beyond the county scope. Located next to the
Historical Society Museum are the more than
150-year-old Caleb Burns Working Man's House
and the 1883 Hickory Grove Schoolhouse. For
those looking for some religious, history
Maryville's surrounding regions may accommodate
you. With a century-old country church, St.
Oswald's in the Field is located fifteen miles
southwest of Maryville and is worth the short
drive. To the east of Maryville, about seventeen
miles, the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception
(1891), the spiritual center of Conception
Abbey/Seminary College in Conception, MO.
Located to the northeast in Clyde, MO. is
the Chapel of the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual
Adoration (1900-11), known for its superb
acoustical qualities.
