DESCRIPTION:The Nodaway County Historical Society will be hosting a Traveling the \nJefferson Highway program at 2 pm\, Sunday\, August 6\,  featuring Michele \nHansford\, retired museum director\, Carthage\,  a member of the Missouri \nHumanities Council Speakers Bureau. The museum is located at 110 N. \nWalnut St.\, Maryville\, MO.\n For the 100th anniversary of the \nJefferson Highway that crossed western Missouri along its international \nroute from Winnipeg\, Canada\, to New Orleans\, Hansford will discuss how\n this early auto trail was designed to foster regional travel and \ntourism in the 1920s. Information taken from association publications\, \ndigitized documents\, and local newspapers will highlight the highway's \nimpact on towns along its path such as St. Joseph\, Kansas City\, and \nJoplin\, while also providing the story of its longtime promoter James D.\n Clarkson.\n The program is free\, but donations to the museum are always welcome.
