Remember as a child the church dinners the ladies in the kitchen would provide? Take a stroll down a culinary memory lane at Friday, July 24, as the Nodaway County Historical Society (NCHS) Museum provides a dinner to remember. Price per meal is eight dollars, and serving will begin at 5:00 p.m. and end at 7:00.
The menu consists of hand-made chicken pot pie, fresh garden vegetables, and peach cobbler, with coffee, ice tea and water to drink.
The funds that are raised through these dinners make it possible to care for materials in a proper way, as well as provide programs to share these artifacts with the public.
When a museum accepts donations from area residents, it is promising that the materials will be cared for in the best possible manner. Saving things in a museum are different than preserving mementoes of a lifetime. In an institution, the time range that professionals aim for is as long as possible – many lifetimes. But it isn’t right to put those materials away in a box and keep them safe. There is also the responsibility to share them with visitors and open the younger generation’s eyes to the past. Come share yesterday's memories the evening of July 24 and enjoy a taste of summer.
The Nodaway County Historical Society museum is located at 110 N. Walnut in Maryville MO. Regular hours are Tuesdays through Fridays, 1:00 to 4:00 and other times by appointment.
