The Nodaway County Historical Society Museum will host an afternoon concert featuring traditional Southern string melodies, old-time country music and contemporary folksongs beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3.
Tony Brown will present a music program at the Nodaway County Historical Society Museum on Saturday, March 3, at 2:00 p.m. The program is free; donations are welcome. This will be Tony Brown’s 4rd musical show to support the museum, the first three brought in enthusiastic crowds in recent years.
Tony Brown said, “ I hope lots of people come and, more importantly, have a really good time. One of the best things in the world, for me, is to share my love of old-time music, tunes that tell a story and open a window on an America that, in many ways no longer exists. In that sense, working with the Historical Society is a really good fit for the kind of stuff I do."
The show is free, but Tony emphasized that the main reason for the event is to raise money for the museum.
"Don't come with an empty wallet," he said. "This is the kind of show -- if I do say so myself -- that usually isn't free, and I generally don't work for free. But the Historical Society does great work in seeking to preserve the past and tell stories about who we are in north Missouri, where we came from, and what we have done. This is an important task, and it's not cheap. So come and enjoy the tunes, relax and 'sit a spell,' but please be generous and help support this important local institution."
Tony will be joined by a couple of very special guests. Jesse Graber, fiddle and mandolin, and Steve Goeke, banjo and guitar, who are two of the finest Southern string music-style players in Kansas City and have agreed to show up to sing and pick with Tony, who said, “ I think folks will be amazed by the virtuosity and showmanship displayed by both these fine musicians.”
Come to the museum at 110 N. Walnut, Maryville MO, for some traditional folk music, plus whatever else the men decide to play. Refreshments will be served and the museum’s exhibits may be viewed following the program. Regular museum hours are 1 to 4, Tuesdays through Fridays and other days by appointment.
