Great Northwest Day at the Capitol Update- 12.18.09
|
As legislators are gearing up for a new season in Jefferson City, so are the citizens of Northwest
Missouri. The Great Northwest Day at the Capitol Steering Committee representing the 18 participating
counties gathered and prioritized legislative issues for the region’s annual visit to the state capitol city on
February 2-3, 2010.
On that date approximately 350-400 people will visit Jefferson City to make their regional voice heard in
a cohesive message. You can read the Great Northwest Day at the Capitol group legislative platform here.
Interested in attending the event with the Nodaway County delegation? More information and an enrollment form, due by January 20, is available here.

"Santa Doesn't Fly South for Christmas Gifts" Ad Campaign -
11.24.09
|
The Greater Maryville Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Nodaway County
Economic Development and the City of Maryville to remind you to shop local
whenever you can this holiday season. Look for our ads in local media.
Click the image to the right for a closer look, and remember to shop local
because:
- You can save local jobs. More than 1,000 people in Nodaway County are
employed in the retail trade. Not only are they our friends and neighbors, they
collectively earn $22 million a year for our local economy.
- You will save gas. If you have an average car, you will save $11 by not driving
to that other retail hub.
- You will save time. Who wants to spend an hour or more on the road?
- You will reinvest in our community. Fourth quarter sales in Nodaway County last
year were $52 million. The City of Maryville collects 2.25% (less than that city
to the south) on these sales, and Nodaway County collects 1%. That’s 1.5 million
dollars in three months! Spend that money somewhere else and your community gets
nothing.
