Cowboys are the theme of the Nodaway County Historical Society program on Saturday, July 16 at 2:00 p.m., at the museum located at 110 N. Walnut, Maryville, MO.
Harmon Mothershead will speak about cowboy culture, trail drives, loneliness and the skills needed to be a cowboy. Following his talk, Bob Bohlken will introduce Jeff Bradley, who will entertain with two kinds of cowboy songs. These will tie in with two men who have been honored on the Stairway of the Stars at the museum: John S. Bilby, who owned the Bilby cattle ranch here in Nodaway County around Quitman, as well as many other cattle holdings elsewhere, and Smiley Burnette, who lived in Ravenwood when he was young, and became an actor and singer who starred in movies with Gene Autrey, Roy Rogers and other singing cowboys.
Come join us for this program, and take time after the program to view the museum exhibits. There is no admission charge, but donations are welcome. Call the museum at 660-582-8176 with any questions.
