• Great Northwest Day at the Capitol

  • Great Northwest Day at the Capitol exists as a cooperative effort by NW MO communities to unify and enhance our region's image in Jefferson City. The event creates a forum in which northwest Missourians can meet face-to-face with legislators. Since its introduction in 2002, Great Northwest Day at the Capitol has been a tremendous success. The event has continued to grow, and legislators to have become increasingly aware of the issues facing our communities of the Great Northwest.  Speaking as a unified region works!

  • GREAT NORTHWEST DAY AT THE CAPITOL 2025

Over 200 constituents from across Northwest Missouri convened on Feb 4 & 5 for the 23rd Annual Great Northwest Day at the Capitol. Representing a diverse array of sectors including business, education, healthcare, and government, these individuals journeyed from the nineteen-county region to Jefferson City to enlighten lawmakers on the challenges facing Northwest Missouri.

This year's agenda centered on key priorities of community revitalization, increasing childcare availability, increasing workforce, and workforce housing, but also included roads and bridges, education, and broadband. A Priorities Panel: Best Practices session opened the event. After follow-up discussions focusing on regional priorities, many attendees then headed to the Capitol building for visits with legislators and department leaders. Evening festivities began with the Northwest Missouri Reception, at which area legislators provided brief comments and Dr. Clarence Green was named the  2025 Citizen of the Year Award.  Dr. Clarence Green is Dean of the Savannah Campus for North Central Missouri College. Next, the main event, ‘Discover Northwest Missouri’ unfolded and drew a crowd of over 400 individuals, including Governor Kehoe, Lt. Governor Wasinger, and numerous sentators, representatives, directors, and staffers. Wednesday's regional breakfast featured speaker Jon Doolittle, President and CEO of Missouri Hospital Association, before the delegation journeyed to the Capitol for an introduction on the House floor.

"Great Northwest Day 2025 is a powerful demonstration of what can be accomplished when our region comes together with a shared vision and a united voice. By working collectively, we elevate the issues that matter most to our communities and drive meaningful change for Northwest Missouri. We are grateful to everyone who contributed to this year’s event, including attendees & sponsors, and to the many legislators and department officials who prioritized being here to engage with us. Together, we are shaping a stronger future for our rural corner of Missouri." says Crystal Narr, Executive Director, Chillicothe Area Chamber & Chair, Great Northwest Day 2025.
