The
University of Missouri Extension will again be providing free tax return assistance through the IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
The VITA program has operated for over 50 years, offering free tax help to:
- People who generally make $57,000 or less,
- Persons with disabilities, and
- Limited English-speaking taxpayers
VITA volunteers are limited in preparation scope and will not file business or other complex tax returns.
Be sure to bring the following items:
- Photo ID for all adults. (Married filing jointly couple should come together)
- Social Security cards for each individual on the tax return (including children)
- Any correspondence you received with "IMPORTANT TAX DOCUMENT ENCLOSED" on the envelope
- Proof of all income (Social Security, alimony, tips, wages, unemployment, interest, dividends, etc.) If your employer does not provide you with an income form, you need to ask for one.
- Proof of any deductions you are taking, such as charitable donations, education or medical expenses, taxes paid, business expenses, mortgage interest, IRA contributions, child care expenses, etc.
- Completed and signed form MO-5674 for eligible Property Tax Credits (senior and disabled citizens only).
Social distancing will be observed and face coverings will be required.
