Orphan Train
Orphan trains came through this area starting in 1854. The Children’s Aid Society, New York City, was created by Charles Loring Brace as way to help the street children “by placing them with families in other parts of the country.”
We would like any family who had orphan train riders to be represented at that part of the program. Holt County Historical Society and Nodaway County Historical Society are presenting a joint program at 2 pm, Sunday, September 24, at the Maitland Methodist Church. If you have any information or questions, please direct them to Margaret Kelley or Cathy Palmer at 660.582.8176, or 660-541-1321.
